The church was started in 1606 and
consecrated several years later. Holy Trinity was built as a
chapel of ease for people who had to travel many miles, often on
foot, to attend Sunday services at Bradford Cathedral and was
originally called Wibsey Chapel. This is the oldest church in
the Bradford area. Holy Trinity
church celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2006, with about 2000
people participating in the many different activities on offer,
and with most of the congregation (and the Bishop of Bradford)
dressed in period costume.
Alterations, several years ago, created
a kitchen, downstairs lounge and upper meeting room with lift
access from the space at the back of the church and at the end
of 2009 the church itself was completely re-ordered, with all
the pews removed.
The vision is to have a resource for a
range of activities which will attract a variety of people. Our
9.30 am Café Church services meet in this new space. An upper
room facility is used for the monthly Baptism information
evenings, Mothers’ Union and other groups and meetings.
The church has a well-established
structure for pastoral care and holds lay-led services every six
weeks at Norman Lodge Residential Home and monthly services at
Sal Royd care home.
The church is set back from a busy main
road, with a quantity of both heavy and light industry nearby.
There are a few shops in Low Moor, but not within an easy
distance of the church.
Low Moor has two C of E primary schools,
with which the parish has very good links. Regular assemblies
and activities take place in both and school children regularly
come into church for curriculum activities. |
