MONDAY CLUB:
This is part of St. Mary’s
and is based in the Church Hall. It provides support for older
people living in Wyke and the surrounding areas who would otherwise
be housebound. For those in this category, we provide a befriending
service. Our organization takes the shape of social day care, which
provides companionship, shared meals and volunteering opportunities.
All our Staff and Volunteers have completed CRB checks and
regularly undertake training, including N.V.Q. Level 2 Health and
Social Care which is a recognised qualification for people working
in and around the care industry. We are currently working towards
completion of PQASSO (practical quality assurance systems for small
organisations). This is a requirement from Bradford Council’s Adult
Services Department, who funds our service.
Known as the “Monday Club”,
it meets every Monday at 11.00am (except the first Monday in the
month). The housebound are collected by Access bus or car and
brought to the Church Hall. Tea and biscuits are served upon
arrival. A weekly raffle is held and the proceeds are
channelled
back into funds, for occasions such as birthdays.
A nutritional two course
meal is served at lunchtime with a cup of tea. This is followed by
entertainment and/or singing or a game until 2.15p.m. when tea and
cakes are served. We cater for many needs including dementia. The
Monday Club is a low level preventative service for individuals with
low to moderate care needs. The Monday Club complements statutory
care provision and does not mirror Day Care in purpose built
centres. There is a charge for this service.
Following on from an
individual assessment a place at Monday Club would be offered, an
agreement between our service and the individual signed, and then
services would commence. Should we acknowledge that we cannot meet
an individual’s needs we would signpost the individual onto other
services, such as Norman Lodge or Wyke Manor Cay Centres. |
THE
WELL BEING CAFE
Haven on the Green:
This is part of St. Mary’s and is
based in St. Mary’s Church Hall. It operates on the first Monday of
every month from 11.30 am until 2.30 pm, to bring together both carers
and those they care for, for a stimulating and entertaining day.
Referrals are received from GP practices, adult services, word of mouth
and other professionals.
Throughout Bradford and District
there are approximately 18 cafes currently operating. They are all run
on similar lines and are a joint venture between Adult Services and the
N.H.S. Following consultation with our members it was felt that a
healthy option lunch e.g. Crisp Green Salad with organic Baked Potato
and various fillings, opposed to the traditional food served at Monday
Club would be of benefit. You can expect to be either vocally engaged
with various entertainers such as Leo Kenny , who interactively
encourages everyone to join in with the singing, dancing or even the
shaking of a tambourine or on some occasions extremely interesting
speakers will share their wealth of knowledge with our group. Currently
there is no charge for this service and the whole session is staffed by
volunteers. However, in the near future a nominal charge may have to be
applied.
In attendance at our Cafe you can
expect various professionals to be available to offer support, and where
this is not the case we would ensure that we pass on relevant
information to support the individual. |
